One of the best parts about my job is getting to be outside everyday.

As a forest ranger, I get to spend all day outside in nature.

Sometimes I work on projects around the park and other times I Patrol the woods and nature looking for potential problems. Potential problems could be fallen trees or animals that are in danger. Potential problems could also be hikers and backpackers that have not stayed on the trail. Some of the guys like to go rogue. I find them in the middle of nowhere cold and hungry. The National Park is no place to play survivor man when you aren’t equipped with food, water, and a way to start a fire. I was hiking down one of our severely moderate trails and I smelled a very familiar stench and odor coming from the woods. It was not a smell that was familiar to the area, but the smell was familiar to me. I recognize the scent as marijuana right away. I traveled in the direction of the marijuana sent. I knew I was going to run into hikers at some point and I had a lot to say to them. I finally reached the destination where the hikers were back packed. They were sitting outside with a small vape pen. Since the guys weren’t smoking or using a fire, I didn’t say anything about the marijuana vape pen. I told the guys to have a good day and I made sure they didn’t need any help. I left them alone to continue on their adventure. I’m happy to let anyone roam the woods for an adventure as long as they aren’t breaking the rules.
