Using the ranch for a growing operation

My father left me our family ranch.

I was the only kid so it wasn’t a surprise by any means.

Actually, my father in addition to I worked the ranch for the last chapter of his life. I just wonder what he would know now that I have repurposed much of the ranch for marijuana growth. He’s either happy or he’s rolling over in fear. But, without this change toward cannabis cultivation, there would be no more family ranch most likely. I really didn’t go straight into farming. My interest lies with business and I got an MBA before going to work in finance. I did that for a while and it was interesting but not easily the sort of thing I wanted to do forever either. So when dad reached out to me about the future of the ranch, I moved home. Long before I decided to go with a commercial grow operation here on the ranch, I had to change the industry stream once before. Dad was basically barely breaking even with commercial farming. So all of us pivoted the company to deliver top quality items in addition to meat to specialized food stores in addition to diners. So much of the same thing is happening now. It’s just that I’m installing temperature controlled areas in the main ranch along with high performance lighting. Our large scale grow rooms should yield very well and help us get a leg up in the cannabis cultivation market locally. I’m actually happy about the future in addition to I’m completely committed to pot farming as the future of this particular family farm. I assume marijuana growing is the only way I’ll be able to keep the family ranch to the next generation.

Getting started with a grow op

This past year was all it easily took for me to finally get serious about turning my passion into my living.

And I’m both happy and a bit freaked out.

You see, I want to get into cannabis cultivation full time. I have recently tendered my resignation at my work. This is a task I have held for almost thirty years. I have been with this company since I got out of school. But if I’m ever going to see what I can do with my love for pot farming, now is the time to be doing that. But it’s easily making it a dice roll too. I’m using much of my savings to launch a commercial grow room on my property. Happily, my property is properly zoned for cannabis cultivation in addition to any sort of farming. I have a good set up with the real building on my property. For the last few weeks, I have been fixing up the main shed so it could house a commercial grow operation. So far, I have done all of this on my own in addition to without easily tapping any capital. It’s the licensing in addition to developing the grow room that will be the source of needed money. But after 25 years of expert cannabis cultivation under the radar, I want to see what I can do. While I have never sold any of the weed from my pot growing, I have given it away. And the reviews have been great. So, it’s with a mix of excitement in addition to trepidation that I take the full time dive into marijuana growing however on a commercial grow op scale.

The two recreational marijuana dispensaries near me are now offering delivery

I was scared when the pandemic started last year. Despite my age, I’m as high risk as you can get. I’m an immunocompromised person with chronic asthma and a heart condition. Luckily I had money in my savings account to buy N-95 masks from an expensive retailer on the internet during the entire pandemic, otherwise I don’t know if I would still be here. A lot of people in my area never took the pandemic seriously, even as many of us were watching loved ones drop left and right. I realized that it wasn’t worth going to the store three times a week once they all started offering home delivery one after the next. Once my favorite grocery store unveiled their own delivery program, I quit shopping for groceries and essentials in person. It was much easier ordering on my phone and having bags of groceries left on my front porch three to four hours later. Going to marijuana dispensaries was proving stressful as well, since the lobbies were packed full of an assortment of people with and without masks on. That’s when I learned that the two recreational marijuana dispensaries near me were now offering home delivery. Basically you could get your products delivered to your front door at no extra cost if the order total was at least $150. Any orders less than $150 would have a $10 delivery fee attached to them. I started ordering all of my cannabis products once a month so I could get free home delivery. It’s great, especially when you get same day delivery. Only one of the dispensaries offers same day delivery, but I have heard that other weed stores plan to unveil similar programs in the near future.

Buying marijuana

Cannabis flower products are the highest selling items at dispensaries

Every time I go to the local marijuana dispensary, there is a line literally leading out the front door. You have to check in at the lobby and then you’re put into a queue. Some people wait inside if there are enough seats, but many people wait in their cars and get text messages when the store is ready for them to come back inside. Normally I’d get home delivery, but this dispensary raised their delivery fees last month. Before it was $10 for every order under $100, but now it’s $15 for every order under $200. I don’t ever get $200 worth of products at one time, so paying a $15 fee on every single cannabis order feels like highway robbery. Part of the reason why the lines are so long is because this medical dispensary recently started carrying cannabis flower products. Previously these were not allowed at medical marijuana dispensaries. Once the state changed their rules and regulations, all of the cannabis companies started rolling out flower jars. Once the flower buds hit the shelves, the dispensaries were packed with new patients that were finally ready to leave the black market for good. Many didn’t see the point in paying to be medical patients if all they had access to were tinctures and capsules. But with all of these new patients, it has never been harder to get in and out of the dispensary in less than an hour or two. It doesn’t matter if I go to the dispensary in the morning or if I go at night, the lines are always excruciatingly long.

A lot of purple cannabis strains are indicas

It was a mixture of calmness, euphoria, and instant sedation.

My family is full of alcohol drinkers. I was raised to believe that the true way to unwind after a stressful day of working is to have a few strong alcoholic drinks. The addiction melts your brain and can turn some people into monsters. Although I’m not against having a drink every now and then myself, I am aware of the dangers associated with regular drinking. It’s frustrating because I struggle with insomnia and I have for years. It was tempting to use alcohol to treat my insomnia in college, but I looked for other options thankfully. Usually I cycled between melatonin supplements, valerian root capsules, and benadryl allergy medication. Although they all helped my insomnia to some degree, none of them worked as well as cannabis once I finally discovered it years later. One of my closest friends had heard about my plight with insomnia and offered to let me try what he said was his strongest indica strain on record. I had no idea what an indica strain was, nor did I grasp the importance of this batch being the strongest indica strain that my weed smoking friend had personally ever tried. I agreed to spend the night if it got as crazy as he worried it would be, but I wasn’t deterred. When the weed kicked in minutes after my last exhale, it came on like a freight train. It was a mixture of calmness, euphoria, and instant sedation. I think I slept for four hours straight on his couch after passing out minutes after smoking with him. Now I have a selection of indica strains in my fridge, many of which are purple in color. I have been told that many indica flower buds exhibit purple colors during the flowering stage, but I know that temperature and nutrient levels can have as much of an effect on color as anything else.

The THC content in my recent gram of ice bubble hash was 57%

Since I get paid once a month, I have to make a monthly budget and stick by it.

I try to account for all of my expenses, even ones that might be sudden and unexpected.

For instance, I accidentally chipped a tooth last month eating granola and had to get filled in at the dentist. The was three hundred dollars I wasn’t expecting to spend that month, but at least I had emergency money budgeted. However, that also meant that I couldn’t use any extra money for eating out or making purchases that aren’t absolute essentials. I have several bills at home to pay, including electricity, cable, water, gas, and insurance. I also have several medication copays each month, totaling $55. If I’m not careful, I won’t have enough money left over to cover my minimal expenses. That’s why I jumped on a recent sale at one of the cannabis dispensaries in my county. They were taking $40 off every order over $120 in total. That meant that I could buy $120 worth of ice bubble hash for only $80. This is a $20 savings on each jar of premium hashish. Even though it’s live hash made from fresh cannabis cuttings, the THC content isn’t really high. I got a gram of Original Glue that measures out at 52% THC while my gram of Gas Monkey has 57% THC inside. If you want to get a stronger hit, you can extract the rosin oil from the hashish with a hair straightener and some parchment paper. You may end up with a less usable product in the end, but each hit will be much stronger.

THCV is an amazing appetite suppressor that helps with blood sugar regulation

My overactive eating habits are getting out of control.

  • I have always had a problem with nervous eating, but it got really bad during the COVID pandemic.

For months I was constantly anxious and eating was one of the few things I could do compulsively to address my fears. Things started to get really bad when I was buying pop tarts and eating entire boxes of them within the course of two or three days. When I started eating an entire box within a 24 hour period, I had to quit buying them altogether. But things didn’t improve from there, I just replaced the pop tarts with Oreos and other sweets. By the end of 2020, I had put on at least 40 pounds of extra weight. I started to exercise at this point, but my eating habits hadn’t improved that much. Smoking marijuana everyday wasn’t helping either because it made me hungry most of the time. When I found a strain that suppressed my appetite, I found out that it was high in THCV. This cannabinoid is known as an appetite suppressor and can also help with blood sugar regulation. I found a company that sells THCV isolates and started taking it as a daily supplement to promote weight loss. To my amazement, it knocked back my hunger almost immediately. The only cannabinoid banned in the 2018 Farm Bill is delta-9-THC, which means that THCV extracted from federally compliant hemp plants is perfectly legal. This makes the cannabinoid an excellent supplement for people looking for appetite suppressing effects without going on a psychoactive stimulant or something similar.

Using cannabis for jaw pain

I am a tooth grinder.

I can’t help myself, and during the day when I guess I certainly press my teeth together.

I have to actively tell myself to stop doing it more than once a day. At night I grind my teeth. I have tried mouth guards however I seem to rip them out in the middle of the night, wearing my teeth down odors, but hte jaw pain is way worse than that. I get it where it hurts to eat, talk plus just exist in my day to day life. I started popping pain pills plus after that I got kind of scared of them. The last thing I want to be is a pill popper. I learn online that cannabis is known for helping those with jaw pain, but you can put on a CBD cream or even smoke cannabis. I went to my local doctor to get a medical marijuana script. Then I got the card in the mail plus went over to the medical weed shop near me. I decided to use the cream at first since I didn’t like the method of buying oil, a vape plus being a smoker. The cream so far does the trick. It is certainly extravagant plus a super tiny tube, but it is magic in a bottle. I put a little bit on at night plus first thing in the day. I could grind my teeth all night long plus I did not guess a thing the next day. I am still actively laboring on stopping the jaw pain all together, and however, having a cream that keeps the pain at bay is just certainly nice.

Using a CBD cream for headaches

I get certainly disappointing headaches, but i hate taking pills for them too.

I guess it isn’t healthy to consume a pill every time my head hurts… Usually if I am good about water plus eating right, I can get past the pain, then occasionally the heat, pollen or just the air quality affects my head.

I have found that I can get out of taking an excedrin or an aleve if I use a cannabis topical. People use medical marijuaan for a lot of things, however they use cannabis to treat anxiety, depression plus sleeping problems. There are people that use medical weed for seizures, PTSD plus chemotherapy. I found that topicals are certainly good at treating chronic pain, inflammation, skin disorders plus you guessed it, headaches! A CBD cream isn’t exactly cheap, but it is worth it. I don’t need to use my topical everyday, just about once a month. The odor is a faint odor of lavender plus it is a tiny, portable tube. It is small enough I can stuff it in a carry on plus bring it all over the world with me. I use my CBD cream as a last case scenario. It works every time plus the cannabis dispensary near myself and others keeps it in stock. Occasionally I work out a deal with the budtender. I will buy like 10 of the creams plus get it almost 50% off; My headache goes away in under an hour plus I don’t have to swallow a pill. I just rub the cream on my face plus neck plus instantly guess soothed.
