Because of the location of the dispensary, traffic can be a nightmare on the weekends.
The dispensary is located on the corner of a main thoroughfare. There really isn’t any parking on the street and we only have a small lot in the back of the dispensary. When there is a sale or some kind of event, we have to hire an extra security guard to manage parking and traffic. The state and the county will not pay for the extra help, even though the streets would not fall under my responsibility regularly. This year on 4/20, we expected a huge crowd of people. We advertised our sales and specials all throughout the month of April. We had some really nice sales and a lot of vendors were going to be present in the dispensary that day. We had more than a dozen different BOGO sales listed on the website. I arrived at the dispensary about 30 minutes before we opened. There was already a line of people out on the street, waiting to come into the building. The parking lot was filled with cars and a couple of people were double-parked. I told the security officers that we were going to have a very long day. The parking lot was filled with cars all weekend and the street was busy. I heard honking horns throughout most of the day. Thankfully there were no accidents and no instances of road rage. Even though the store was significantly busier than usual, we didn’t have any problems keeping the crowd under control.
