Before we had legal cannabis products in this state, there were a number of companies attempting to manufacture mimicry products that contained legal compounds inside. I remember the head shops carried these “special brownies” that basically had a high dose of melatonin and valerian root inside. Together, you’d get mildly sedating effects, but nothing to write home about. Eventually a company called “Marley’s Mellow Mood” started selling drinks with a similar ingredient list to the special brownies. I bought a few back in college despite having access to real cannabis, and I remember feeling nothing more than a tiny bit of sedation from those products. In reality, you’d probably feel more effects from diphenhydramine over-the-counter tablets or melatonin supplements. Recently I found a different kind of drink altogether, this one combines the effects of caffeine and CBD to give the user a strong, but balanced feeling of mental and physical stimulation. Despite the misnomer of CBD being a sedating drug, it actually produces stimulation in most users at normal doses. When combined with caffeine, it naturally softens some of the edginess that many users experience when consuming it in coffee or iced tea for instance. I wish the CBD stores in my town would all sell these special hemp drinks because they’re not the easiest products to source locally. I had to get mine from an online CBD store for the longest time.
