When my boss Jill interviewed myself and others to work at her medical marijuana dispensary, I told her that I did not want to work every single weekend.
I was more than glad to work every other weekend, however I didn’t want to be stuck working when my friends were enjoying a great time at the dance club. And for the first couple of weeks, I was busy every other weekend. When I was off, I hung out with my friends. After a handful of weeks, my boss decided to change my schedule. I came to work on a Monday and saw I was supposed to work every day for both weekends on the schedule. I instantly went to the boss’s office and knocked on the door. I told Jill that I was busy for both weekends and she replied with “I know”. Jill proceeded to tell myself and others that she needed someone responsible to work on the weekends. Jill was trying to butter myself and others up so I would not complain. I loved all of Jill’s compliments, however I did not want to work every weekend. I told Jill that I would complete the schedule this week, however I was not going to permanently work every weekend unless Jill was going to provide myself and others a hefty pay raise. It’s been 3 weeks since I started covering every weekend shift. I never get to go to the club with my friends anymore, but Jill agreed to a pay raise and she promoted myself and others to the night shift supervisor. I receive a higher salary and I get benefits love a 401K and health insurance.
