What if we finally get weed legalized and it backfires? I would like to use moonshine as an example.
I live near the foothills, and there are a lot of mountain folk that brew their own beer and make their own moonshines.
Those people do everything for themselves! One of the ways they make extra money is by selling gallon jugs of moonshine. The guy I used to buy from finally went legit, and opened a legal distillery. Now his prices are higher than ever! If medical cannabis becomes legal will the same thing happen, and now I will have to pay twice as much to get the same product? One of the most amazing things about medical cannabis is that the price has remained steady for decades. When I was in college I paid roughly the same amount for a few grams of medical cannabis as I pay today. The quality has changed, and the price has risen a little, but compared to the cost of gas and food, the cost of medical cannabis has been remarkably consistent. The best way to ruin a good thing, such as a free market, is to get the government involved. When medical cannabis becomes legal then the government will be involved with it, and then the prices will skyrocket. Maybe there will be fewer people who go to jail for medical cannabis, but a lot more people will receive fines and citations for doing it the wrong way. I don’t trust the government, and I think if anyone can screw up something as beautiful as medical cannabis, it’s them!
