When my ex and I got a divorce, I wanted to make sure that he was going to follow the rules that I set forth in the custody arrangement, however one of the rules was not using recreational marijuana in front of the kids; I had a sizable problem with my husband using marijuana with the kids in the house and that was easily 1 of the reasons why I decided to file for divorce.
I also did not want him to continue the bad behavior once the kids were out of my house and he was alone with them, but there are studies that show secondhand smoke from marijuana can cause just as numerous concerns as second hand smoke from cigarettes.
Our custody arrangements stated that my husband would also refrain from doing any drugs in front of the children or while they were in his care. The first weekend the kids were with him, they came to the lake house and their clothes and their tote odors akin to weed. I called my husband and I demanded an answer. He swore to myself and others that I was crazy and there were no marijuana drugs in his house. The next time the kids came to the lake house and they smelled similar to marijuana, I called the social worker! She went to surprise my ex-husband for a visit and he found marijuana in the house. She surprised him on a day when the kids were with him and the social worker had proof that my ex-husband was not following the custody arrangement, now he has to have supervised visits with the children until he can finally complete a new drug and alcohol rehabilitation class.
