The driver disappeared with 3 orders

I hired a new driver to deliver orders for the cannabis dispensary.

The driver had to pass a background check and a driver screening in order to receive the job. Everything checked out and the guy had really good references from his last two employees. I had no reason to believe there would be a problem with the employee, but yesterday the driver disappeared with three orders. He was taking three cannabis deliveries up to the Hills. One of them had almost $450 worth of merchandise. The customer expected the driver around 1:30 pm. At 2 pm, the driver called the cannabis dispensary because the driver still had not arrived. I called the driver’s cell phone and it went straight to voicemail. I called 5 minutes later and I got the voicemail again. I wasn’t terribly worried, because service can be choppy in most of our delivery zone. When the customer called me again at 3 p.m., I was starting to worry. The driver was supposed to clock out at 4 p.m. and he never came back to the store. The driver disappeared with three orders that totaled almost $1,000. I’ve been unable to reach the guy at all and this morning my boss said it was time to call the police. I have no idea what happened and maybe the guy is sitting in a hospital somewhere, but my boss is angry and she will have him arrested if he left with the cannabis supplies. That is grand theft in this part of the country.
