A newly formed Houston hospitality group called Different Hospitality has acquired local specialty coffee roaster Boomtown Coffee, according to a firm that brokered the deal.
Financial terms of the acquisition, which was facilitated by Transworld Business Advisors of South & West Texas, were not disclosed.
An announcement from Transworld described the transaction as being “values-aligned” and designed to preserve Boomtown’s brand, leadership and existing presence. In addition to its small-batch roastery, Boomtown operates two prominent cafes in Houston, including its original Heights location and a newer cafe in the downtown Understory atrium. The coffee company dates back to 2011.
Different Hospitality was founded by Houston Heights native Charlie McIntyre, who also launched New Houston’s Heights Coffee Roasters in 2022 and opened a brick-and-mortar location in 2024.
According to the acquisition announcement, the deal is intended to provide additional operational support, long-term stability and new opportunities for team growth and development. Both Boomtown cafes are expected to remain open under the existing brand and leadership.
“Boomtown has built something special in Houston — not just great coffee, but meaningful spaces and a strong internal culture,” McIntyre said. “Our goal isn’t to change what makes Boomtown great, but to protect it, support it, and help it grow responsibly. Different is always better when it’s intentional.”
The deal lands amid a steady stream of acquisitions within the U.S. specialty coffee sector to start 2026. The past six weeks alone have seen Dutch Bros’s acquisition of Clutch Coffee Bar in South Carolina, Schuil Coffee Company’s acquisition of Leelanau Coffee Roasting Co. in Michigan and FairWave Coffee Collective’s acquisitions of Joe Van Gogh Coffee in North Carolina and Fiddleheads Coffee in Wisconsin.
