German coffee roaster manufacturer Probat introduced a new line of commercial roller mill grinders called the GT Series.

Available in four models with different fineness ranges and output capacities, the GT roll grinders can achieve throughputs of up to 1,800 kilograms per hour in the filter range and use either two or three pairs of grinding rolls with Probat’s proprietary corrugation.

More compact and energy-efficient than some earlier Probat industrial grinding solutions, the new mills are designed for precision and consistency in standard applications, while also aiming to bring Probat roll grinding to smaller operations, according to the company.

“The GT Series will form the new standard of Probat grinders and functions as the entry to the Probat grinding portfolio,” Probat Product Manager Julian Jansen told Daily Coffee News. “It is a quality yet no-fuss machine.”

In Probat’s portfolio, the GT line joins the UW Series, which launched in 2011. In the lineup shift, GT 600 models replace the UW 500 series, while UW 300 grinders remain available for fineness ranges the GT line does not cover, according to the company. Probat also says the GT300.3 is 15% shorter than the UW300.3 and requires 25% less floor space.

For maintenance and operation, a single belt drives all rolls in GT machines, simplifying servicing compared to individually driven rolls in UW machines. Probat also points to a new dosing mechanism that eliminates the need for a slide gate while regulating coffee flow through the mill.

“The [GT Series] is designed for standard industrial applications, meeting customer demands but not exceeding them,” said Jansen. “The UW Series has individually driven rolls that give operators additional variables to play with to achieve the desired particle distribution. Most customers do not need this, and by combining all the drives into one belt drivetrain, we simplify maintenance and reduce energy consumption.”

Probat publicly showed off its GT Series machines for the first time at the HostMilano trade show in Italy last October.

Beyond coffee and grinding, Probat’s broader food-processing expansion has included consolidating its U.S. operations into a Dallas headquarters anchored by AC Horn Manufacturing, which Probat acquired in early 2024. More recently, Probat announced it has integrated MacIntyre Chocolate Systems into its corporate brand portfolio as part of its “One Probat” strategy.

“As we keep growing across all food segments under a unified identity as One Probat, we keep an open ear to our customers and our markets to deliver innovations where our partners need them,” Jansen said.
