Numerous Compass Coffee locations have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.popville.com\/2026\/02\/compass-coffee-dc-14th-and-i-street-nw-closed\/\">closed within the past two weeks<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>A hearing to approve the sale is scheduled for Feb. 26&nbsp;in the <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Columbia<\/span><\/span>. If the sale is approved and closes, Caff\u00e8 Nero would become the new owner of substantially all Compass Coffee assets.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.caffenero.com\/us\">Caff\u00e8 Nero<\/a>, founded in <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">London<\/span><\/span> in 1997 by <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Gerry Ford<\/span><\/span>, has more than 1,000 locations globally and a comparatively modest U.S. footprint concentrated around <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Boston<\/span><\/span>. The Compass deal would give the company an immediate foothold in the D.C. market.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2579\" data-end=\"2803\">The court notice identified an entity called Next Gen Coffee Enterprises LLC as the backup bidder in the Compass auction, with a bid of $4,663,000, positioning it to step in if the winning deal fails to close.<\/p>\n<p>Compass Coffee was founded in 2014, growing to more than two dozen locations in the DMV area. The Chapter 11 filing lands amid a dispute between Compass\u2019s founders. In January 2025, co-founder&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/dailycoffeenews.com\/2025\/01\/15\/compass-coffee-co-founder-sues-owners-alleging-fraud\/\">Harrison Suarez sued Compass<\/a>, Michael Haft and another owner in federal court, alleging fraud and other claims. In a memorandum opinion dated Nov. 3, 2025, the court allowed all but one of Suarez\u2019s claims to proceed past a motion to dismiss.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<p><em>Comments? Questions?
