All images courtesy of Red Bird Roasting.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><script async=\"\" defer=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/proxy.beyondwords.io\/npm\/@beyondwords\/player@latest\/dist\/umd.js\" onload=\"new BeyondWords.Player({ target: this, projectId: 50015, contentId: '1c41b47b-c924-49e0-a89f-59b7002edf18' })\">\n<\/script>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Specialty coffee and craft beer, two beverage birds of a feather, are flocking together in Kelowna, British Columbia, with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.redbirdroasting.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Red Bird Roasting<\/a> opening inside the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.viceandvirtuebrewing.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Vice and Virtue Brewing<\/a> building.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The new roastery cafe is just down the block from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.redbirdbrewing.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Red Bird Brewing<\/a>, which acquired Vice and Virtue earlier this year and hatched the coffee plans in an unused portion of the V&amp;V brewery.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Occupying approximately 1,000 square feet, the coffee shop and roastery opened last month.<\/p>\n<p>Jute coffee sacks adorn the upper portion of the tall walls, while Edison bulbs dangling from hefty wooden rafters help divide the height of the space and illuminate a bright red floor-level mural depicting coffee&#8217;s seed-to-cup journey.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The colors, materials, lighting and artwork align with the design of the Red Bird brewery down the block, where a mural from the same artists exists.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;re trying to evoke a similar feeling to the brewery tap room with natural wood and black accents,&#8221; Red Bird Roasting Co-Owner Peter Glockner told Daily Coffee News. &#8220;The main table also features a living Coffea Arabica plant that we named Joelle, compliments of our neighborhood plant guru, Matt, from Plant Gather two blocks away.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycoffeenews.com\/2025\/08\/20\/red-bird-roasting-flies-high-in-kelowna-b-c\/red-bird-roasting-kelowna-bc\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-190287\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-190287\" src=\"https:\/\/dailycoffeenews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/red-bird-roasting-kelowna-bc.jpg\" alt=\"red bird roasting kelowna bc\" width=\"1240\" height=\"1653\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dailycoffeenews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/red-bird-roasting-kelowna-bc.jpg 1240w, https:\/\/dailycoffeenews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/red-bird-roasting-kelowna-bc-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/dailycoffeenews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/red-bird-roasting-kelowna-bc-465x620.jpg 465w, https:\/\/dailycoffeenews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/red-bird-roasting-kelowna-bc-113x150.jpg 113w, https:\/\/dailycoffeenews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/red-bird-roasting-kelowna-bc-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/dailycoffeenews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/red-bird-roasting-kelowna-bc-1152x1536.jpg 1152w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1240px) 100vw, 1240px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Longstanding members of Kelowna&#8217;s business and craft beverage communities, Glockner and co-owner Perry Maxfield also own <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cellartek.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cellar-Tek<\/a>, a supplier of commercial equipment for wine, brewery, distillery and coffee roasting operations across Canada and North America. A Cellar-Tek showroom and headquarters is located next door to the roastery.<\/p>\n<p>Roasting equipment sold by Cellar-Tek falls under its Coffee-Tek division, which sells the full line of commercial roasters and other equipment made by Israeli manufacturer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coffee-tech.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Coffee-Tech Engineering<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>A Coffee-Tech FZ94 Evo 2.4-kilogram-capacity electric shop roaster stands in one corner of the new cafe. Across the room, Red Bird baristas work a 2-group Nuova Simonelli Appia II espresso machine paired with a Victoria Arduino Mythos MyOne grinder perched atop a PuqPress M6 auto tamper.<\/p>\n<p>A Nuova Simonelli MDX-S grinder is used for decaf and rotating single-origin espressos, and a variable-speed single-dose Turin DF83V grinder preps beans for manual pourovers.<\/p>\n<p>Glockner said the company is likely to start tinkering with cold brew in the spring, while also experimenting more with coffee beers at the brewery.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Red Bird Brewing currently has an imperial coffee stout aging in a cask, and we\u2019ll definitely be looking to add some coffee beers to the line-up once all the core beers are fully dialed in at V&amp;V,&#8221; Glockner said.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycoffeenews.com\/2025\/08\/20\/red-bird-roasting-flies-high-in-kelowna-b-c\/red-bird-roasting-kelowna-coffee-tek\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-190289\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-190289\" src=\"https:\/\/dailycoffeenews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/red-bird-roasting-kelowna-Coffee-Tek.jpg\" alt=\"red bird roasting kelowna Coffee Tek\" width=\"1240\" height=\"1653\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dailycoffeenews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/red-bird-roasting-kelowna-Coffee-Tek.jpg 1240w, https:\/\/dailycoffeenews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/red-bird-roasting-kelowna-Coffee-Tek-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/dailycoffeenews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/red-bird-roasting-kelowna-Coffee-Tek-465x620.jpg 465w, https:\/\/dailycoffeenews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/red-bird-roasting-kelowna-Coffee-Tek-113x150.jpg 113w, https:\/\/dailycoffeenews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/red-bird-roasting-kelowna-Coffee-Tek-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/dailycoffeenews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/red-bird-roasting-kelowna-Coffee-Tek-1152x1536.jpg 1152w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1240px) 100vw, 1240px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Red Bird Head Roaster James Balfour will soon fire up a Coffee-Tech Engineering Silon ZR7 7-kilo gas roaster, pending installation and certification. Sales of home brewing equipment are also soon to come, as are public tours of the roastery, tastings and other educational programming.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Once the new roaster is up and running, plans are to start branching out into a wholesale business with local grocery stores, fruit markets, etc.,&#8221; said Glockner. &#8220;We&#8217;ll add espresso and pourover flight tastings in the roastery, similar to a wine tasting experience that you can find all over the Okanagan Valley.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><em>Red Bird Roasting Lab is located at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/place\/Red+Bird+Roasting\/data=!4m2!3m1!1s0x0:0x58c0485294cec672?sa=X&amp;ved=1t:2428&amp;ictx=111\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">1037 Richter Street in Kelowna<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n<hr>\n<p><i>Comments?
