On Braga Street’s tourist corridor in Bandung, a new Kopi Cantel location was designed to catch passersby with a striking, door-free entry tunnel.

“We aimed to reduce visitors’ hesitation to enter by eliminating the door altogether,” STUDIO ASA, the shop’s design firm, said in a statement shared with DCN. “Without using doors, the massive orange tunnel serves as a transition area between the shop’s exterior and interior… built to enhance the sense of wonder and to evoke feelings of compression and expansion within the space.”

The tunnel acts like an attention magnet from the sidewalk, while respecting the historic facade. “Without intervening in the facade of the building, which is part of the historical heritage of Braga Street, we focus on the interior space,” the firm said. “The entire store, along with the people in it, is visible from the street, turning this interior setting into a window display itself.”

Inside, the studio frames the experience as “hyper-physical retail,” borrowing from visual-merchandising playbooks.

“Inspired by retail techniques such as atmospheric advertising, which operates through imagery and fantasy, we create a space that engages customers through immersive and experiential elements that invite interaction and exploration.”

A prominent feature is a spiraling slide that winds through the space, encouraging guest engagement.

Beige walls form the canvas for color and texture, while vibrant orange, green and mustard appear in furniture and details. Plants and greenery amplify the sense of comfort while pacing the design throughout the room. The palette is complemented by midcentury modern furnishings and other elements chosen to future-proof the shop.

Despite being an indoor retail bay, the space is filled with natural light, courtesy of abundant windows extending to the second floor, which opens up to an outdoor amphitheater for community activities.

“To align with the brand image, we use ‘Joyful Childhood Memories’ as the theme of our design,” STUDIO ASA said. “The childish spirit of our design fosters a connection between space and emotional experience for our customers. This atmospheric framework generates pleasant bodily sensations, creating memories associated with the space.”
