Outside the city that takes its name from the Greek words for brotherly love comes a new cafe offering a modern Greek approach to specialty coffee called The Brew Room.

In a prime spot in Ardmore on Philadelphia’s Main Line, the long, rectangular shop offers warmth through vertical wooden slats near the door, plus white oak paneling across a white stone-topped bar and the back wall behind the counter. At the far end of the room, blue mati pendants pop against a white wall, a bright nod to the owners’ Greek heritage.

Greek influence continues into the pastry case, where spanakopita and bougatsa are joined by other savory and sweet offerings. On the coffee menu, drinks such as the Freddo Espresso and Freddo Cappuccino connect customers to what’s currently popular in Greek cafes, according to Eleni and Danny Chrisidis, the married Greek immigrant partners who opened the shop in October 2025.

“The Ardmore and surrounding areas are very culturally diverse. Coupled with a strong Greek-American community, we are very lucky to be able to cater our Greek offerings and specialty coffee to customers who crave it,” Eleni Chrisidis told Daily Coffee News. “Our Freddo Cappuccino is the best-selling coffee offering in Greece, and we are happy to report that it still stands even all the way here in the U.S.”

Both founders were born in northern Greece. Danny Chrisidis moved with his family from Katerini to the U.S. while still in elementary school, later meeting Eleni, who moved to Philadelphia for college. By the time the duo pivoted into coffee together, Danny had built a long career in restaurants and food, while Eleni’s career focused on business and corporate strategy.

Those strengths converge behind the scenes at The Brew Room, where lead barista Alexandros Chrysikopoulos dials in coffees using a La Marzocco Linea Classic S espresso machine paired with a Mahlkönig G65 GBW grinder, along with distribution tools and an automatic tamper.

A house espresso and batch brews are consistent offerings, while lighter-roasted single-origin coffees are rotated in. Coffees are roasted by a Philadelphia-area supplier.

“Every element on the espresso bar was chosen to support consistency, allowing baristas to focus on taste rather than correction,” Chrysikopoulos told DCN. “Rotation for us isn’t about novelty; it’s about giving a coffee enough time to be understood and presented with confidence.”

As The Brew Room brews, details for a catering program are being finalized, as is a set of signature drinks intended to expand the permanent menu.

“We want guests to feel welcome asking questions, curious about what they’re drinking,” Chrysikopoulos said. “Sharing knowledge is part of that hospitality — explaining a coffee when someone wants to know more, giving context without being overwhelming. At the end of the day, we’re not just serving coffee, we’re building a community around it.”

The Brew Room is located 6 W Lancaster Ave in Ardmore.
